Roadmap to Strategic Molecular Testing Integration
Course Description:
Molecular diagnostics continues to grow at a rapid pace. In fact, this expanding market was valued at more than $3.7 billion in 2006. Yet, even with billions invested, many clinical laboratories remain apprehensive about going molecular.
Although molecular testing can be a powerful revenue driver for clinical laboratories, many are unsure of when or how to bring it onboard. Lab managers struggle to decide which tests to offer and how much these tests will increase accuracy and profitability.
Building a strategic test menu requires an understanding of clinical needs, a solid IT infrastructure and the technology to provide useful test results for physicians.
Join CCM in this must-attend event, where you’ll learn the key steps and foundations required to start building a viable, profitable molecular diagnostics program. In just 75 minutes, you’ll also learn:
- How, when and why to integrate molecular testing into your laboratory
- Best practices for maximizing returns
- Pros and cons of strategic vs. one box test solutions
- Tips for assessing physician and patient interest and need
- Best practices for accurately evaluating IT infrastructure and testing technology
Plus, you’ll get the answers to your specific questions in the interactive Q&A session.
Featured Faculty:
Safedin Sajo Beqaj, PhD, HCLD (ABB), Clinical Lab Consulting LLC.
Dr. Beqaj is a certified Molecular Pathologist and licensed as a Laboratory Director for Molecular Diagnostics by the State of Tennessee. He is a visiting professor at Tennessee State University where he lectures on Molecular Diagnostics. He is also an adjunct professor at Nashville State Community College in Nashville where he teaches Anatomy and Physiology.
Dr. Beqaj serves as a Scientific Director and co-principal investigator at the Treatment Center for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, where he leads scientific research on chronic fatigue syndrome etiology and diagnosis. He is also an observer of the Subcommittee on Verification and Validation of Multiplex Nucleic Acid Assays for the Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute.
Carol A. Holland, Ph.D., Technical Marketing Manager, Beckman Coulter, Inc.
Beckman Coulter, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of biomedical testing instrument systems, tests, and supplies. Dr. Holland currently works at Beckman Coulter, Inc., in the Molecular Diagnostics Business Center, High Sensitivity Testing Group as a Manager in Technical Marketing. Part of her role involves gathering information and translating this information into product requirements for clinical molecular diagnostics assays.
Dr. Holland attended Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where she earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. Her Postdoctoral Fellowship was in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Henry Ford Health Systems, also in Detroit. Following her fellowship, she joined the Infectious Disease Department at Henry Ford Health Systems where she performed research on the genetic diversity of the hepatitis C virus and HIV resistance. She then became the Technical Director of Molecular Pathology at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Dr. Holland also trained on recombinant HIV phenotypic assays at Utrech University Hospital, The Netherlands and on Dengue viral replication at the Navy Medical Research Laboratory in Silver Springs, Maryland.
