Salary Discussions: How to Handle Tough Pay Conversations with Employees
Course Description:
How well-trained are you and your managers to handle difficult salary discussions?
Fact is, most managers have never been trained to discuss compensation. And they too don’t completely understand their organization’s compensation programs.
Even in more stable times, supervisors dread pay conversations because:
- they fear the employee may expect way more than they’re going to get;
- they have no conceptual framework for discussing compensation; and
- they simply don’t know what to say.
In this must-attend CCM audio conference Roxanne Gilbertsen and Laine Thomas Conway of Hewitt Associates will arm HR executives and managers with powerful tools for conducting even the most delicate and potentially emotional pay discussions.
During this essential event, you will learn:
- How effective compensation communications can deliver clear messages that connect pay to performance and build trust within your organization
- How to tackle the most delicate and potentially emotional pay discussions and coach other supervisors on compensation communications
- How to discuss factors that impact compensation decisions
By the end of this 75 minute program, you’ll also know how to:
- Properly communicate your overall compensation strategy and how it is related to overall organizational performance
- Announce changes to base, bonus and other incentive pay plans
- Talk about compensation in ways that employees view it as fair
- Help your employees understand what they can do to maximize pay opportunities
- Effectively discuss how compensation is linked to personal and organizational performance
- Help employees feel valued at every compensation level.
Plus, we’ll help you tackle some of the tough one-on-one employee discussions, including tips on:
- Ways to respond when a poor-performing employee requests additional pay
- How to get the most out of a pay raise discussion with an employee
- What you can say when you unable to bring an employee’s pay up to market rate
- How to get employees to come to you with their compensation-related complaints.
