New FMLA Rules: Complying with Final Regulations
Course Description:
On November 17, 2008, the Department of Labor released final regulations interpreting the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The final regulations are effective January 16, 2009.
The mandatory provisions impose new rules and notice requirements that affect the vast majority of areas covered under FMLA, including:
- FMLA certifications,
- FMLA notice issues,
- “Serious health conditions”,
- Intermittent leave,
- Attendance bonuses, and
- FMLA leave for Military-related circumstances
In this in-depth CCM audio conference, attorney Charles P. Stevens of Michael Best & Friedrich, LLP, will explore the changes and new requirements applicable to employers as they adopt new policies, forms and procedures for administering FMLA-protected employee absences.

- How to accurately define a serious health condition under the new provisions
- New obligations for military leave amendments
- Suggested steps to take to review and revise your current policies
- Steps to take and employer rights in the FMLA medical certification process
- How the new rules can help prevent intermittent leave abuse
