New FMLA Amendment: What Every Employer Needs to Know
Plus: Just added – The Proposed Revisions to the FMLA Regulations!
Course Description:
On January 28, 2008, President Bush signed into law the first ever expansion of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The new bill provides FMLA leave to employees with family members in the military service, in some cases extending unpaid FMLA leave for up to 26 weeks.
On February 11, 2008, the Department of Labor issued an extensive proposed revision of the FMLA regulations for public comment. This proposed revision of the rule creates new forms, renumbers and reorganizes portions of the regulations, clarifies a number of issues, and could add additional burden to administering the FMLA.
FMLA’s complex rules are challenging enough. Now you also have to consider:
- What are the two new types of leave and when are they effective?
How do the new types of leave interact with the leave currently available?
- Under what circumstances can an employee take up to 26 weeks of FMLA leave?
- What sort of notice and documentation must the employee provide to take this leave?
What sorts of steps should employers take to be in compliance with this amendment?
- What sort of steps should employers take with regard to the proposed revisions to the FMLA regulations?
Get the answers these questions and more with CCM’s expert faculty as your guide. In this practical 75 minute audio conference, you’ll find out how the FMLA amendment affects you and your employees, and the actions you need to take to ensure you are in compliance.
You’ll also learn:
- New definitions under the amendment
- How to handle these new leaves if taken on an intermittent or reduced schedule basis
- When paid leave can be substituted for these new unpaid, FMLA-protected service leaves
- The employee’s obligation to provide notice of leave
- How to notify and accurately communicate new leave entitlements to employees
- Practical strategies to revise your current FMLA policies and procedures
- How FMLA and USERRA are related.
Plus, there will be time for your specific questions in the live Q&A session following the course presentation.
